The Ontario Government has declared a second provincial state of emergency in response to the sustained high COVID-19 transmission rate. The provision of healthcare services, including denturism, is not impacted.

Clinical OSCE Portion of the Qualifying Examination Postponed
In these unprecedented times during the COVID-19 pandemic, the College regretfully announces the postponement of the clinical OSCE portion of the College’s Winter 2021 Qualifying Examination. The MCQ portion of the Qualifying Examination will be administered as scheduled on January 21, 2021 in an online remotely proctored format.

MCQ Exam Switching to Online Remote-Proctored Format
The College is announcing a change in the format and date of the upcoming MCQ portion of its Qualifying Examination. The MCQ exam will now be administered as an online, remote-proctored exam (previously in-person). A new exam date is set for Thursday, January 21, 2021.

Ontario Announces Lockdowns in Toronto and Peel Regions.
The Ontario government announced today that Toronto and Peel Regions are moving into a lockdown beginning Monday, November 23, 2020. The provision of health services, including denturism, has not been impacted. The College will continue to provide updates as it pertains to Registered Denturists.

Spousal Exception Regulation Update & Provincial COVID-19 Response Framework
The draft Spousal Exception Regulation for the College of Denturists of Ontario has been posted for public consultation. The Government of Ontario introduced a new framework of specific criteria for imposing COVID-19 measures in different regions of the province.

Update: 2019-2022 CPD Cycle Requirements & 2nd Instalment Renewal Reminder
At their October 16, 2020 meeting, the College’s Quality Assurance Committee approved removing the structured hours requirement for the 2019-2022 CPD Cycle. Registered Denturists who elected to pay their 2020-2021 Certificate of Registration Renewal fees in instalments are reminded that the second instalment is due next Friday October 30th, 2020.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Announces Restart of Health Care Practices
The Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario, Dr. David Williams, has revised Directive 2 effective today, May 26, 2020. The revised Directive 2 provides for the gradual restart of health care services, including ALL (non-essential and essential) denturism care and services.

Extension of Emergency Orders Until May 19
Yesterday, the Ontario government announced that it would be extending, until at least May 19, all existing emergency orders that have been put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19. These orders include the closure of all non-essential workplaces and limits Registered Denturists to the provision of providing essential, urgent care only.

At its meeting via teleconference last Friday, the Council of the College of Denturists of Ontario approved a one-time 50% reduction in the Certificate of Registration fee for renewing and new denturists for the 2020-2021 renewal year (this year).

Update - Mario Mouamer - Notice of Criminal Proceedings
Mr. Mouamer was criminally charged with 17 counts of sexual assault on June 19, 2017 by the Windsor Police Service, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada. The trial began Feb. 10, 2020 and has been scheduled until Feb. 28, 2020 at the Superior Court of Justice in Windsor, Ontario. The College is following the trial closely and will provide pertinent updates should there be further concerns to public safety.
