Qualifying Examination Additional Attempts
With the introduction of the new Registration Regulation in 2025 (O. Reg. 183/25), a limit of three (3) attempts at each component of the Qualifying Examination (QE) was put in place. The regulation includes a stipulation whereby candidates are eligible to apply to the Registration Committee to attempt a QE component for an additional time after three (3) unsuccessful attempts.
The College has developed a decision-making framework as well as candidate guidelines for the additional QE attempt process:
Candidates who apply for an additional attempt will submit a self-study and competency gap
identification plan (“self-study plan”) to the Registration Committee, documenting how they propose to rectify any deficient competency areas found in their previous QE performances.
Following their review, the possible courses of action that the Registration Committee can take include:
- Approval of additional attempt
- Require additional training or remediation such as requiring the candidate to find a mentor, attend specific courses or webinars, etc.
- In rare/serious circumstances involving multiple mitigating factors – require successful completion of another post-secondary program in Denturism (or equivalent)
The Candidate Guidelines outline the required process that candidates must undertake in order to apply for an additional attempt after three (3) unsuccessful attempts.
