Registering for the Qualifying Examination

Graduates of Ontario Colleges who wish to attempt the Qualifying Examination (QE) for the first time are required to submit a complete QE Initial Application prior to becoming eligible to register for the QE.

Step 1: Complete the QE Initial Application

All applicants must adhere to the Qualifying Examination Deadlines.

 

1) Submit an Online QE Initial Application

Create an online profile by submitting the Online QE Initial Application once, including payment of applicable fees. You can return to your online profile within the CDO Portal to update any information as necessary. Creating duplicate online profiles will result in delays processing your QE Initial Application.

 

2) Submit Required Supporting Documents

Scanned copies of the documents below (except for transcripts) can be uploaded directly through your online profile within the CDO Portal:

1. One (1) notarized copy of a valid government-issued identification:
   • A notarized copy of your Passport, Permanent Resident Card, valid Work Permit, Driver's License, Ontario Photo ID Card, or Birth Certificate.
     • Note: A notarized copy of a Canadian Passport or Birth Certificate, Permanent Resident Card, or valid Work Permit is preferred as it will be required after you successfully pass the QE and register for your certificate of registration (license).
2.  ​One (1) Passport Photo taken within the last 12 months.
3. Official Transcripts must be requested to be sent directly to the College from the academic institution - either through the academic institution's online records portal, or through MyCreds. Transcripts uploaded by applicants to the CDO Portal are not considered official. 
   • Transcripts must indicate the degree/diploma awarded.

3) Approval of QE Initial Application

You will receive a notification via email once your completed QE Initial Application has been approved, and you will become an eligible candidate to register for the QE.

Step 2: Qualifying Examination Registration

Candidates must register for the QE through the CDO Portal. Payment for the QE must be paid in full prior to the QE Registration Deadline. If full payment is not received prior to the QE Registration Deadline, you will be automatically withdrawn from the QE.
