Graduates of Canadian Colleges Outside of Ontario

Step 1: Qualifying Examination Initial Application

Individuals who wish to attempt the Qualifying Examination (QE) for the first time are required to create an online profile by submitting the online QE Initial Application, including payment of any applicable fees. Online QE Initial Applications are accepted throughout the year.

Individuals who have a diploma in Denture Therapy or Denturism from a Canadian College outside of Ontario that is not considered an Approved Program, must submit a request for Academic Equivalency Assessment with their QE Initial Application in advance of the deadline (see Exam Dates and Deadlines). Upon receipt of this request and all required supporting documentation, the Registration Committee examines the academic program to determine if it is fundamentally equivalent to the program of study undertaken by individuals who receive a diploma in Denturism from Ontario.

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology's Denturist Technology program in Edmonton, Alberta, is considered an Approved Program. Denturist Technology graduates are not required to complete an Academic Equivalency Assessment and undergo a review by the Registration Committee.

1) Submit an online QE Initial Application

Please create an online profile by submitting the online QE Initial Application once. You can return to your online profile to update any information as necessary. Creating duplicate online profiles will result in delays processing your QE Initial Application.

2) Required Supporting Documents to complete your QE Initial Application:

Scanned copies of the documents below (except for school transcripts) can be uploaded directly through your online profile:

  1. One (1) notarized copy of a valid government-issued identification:
    • A notarized copy of your Passport, Permanent Resident Card, Work Permit, Driver's License, Ontario Photo ID Card, or Birth Certificate.
      • Note: A notarized copy of a Canadian Passport or Birth Certificate, Permanent Resident Card, or Work Permit is preferred as it will be required after you successfully pass the Qualifying Examination and register for your license.
  2. One (1) Passport Photo taken within the last 12 months.
  3. Official Transcripts must be requested to be sent directly to the College from the academic institution - either through the academic institution's online records portal, or through MyCreds. Transcripts uploaded by applicants to the CDO Portal are not considered official.
  4. One (1) notarized copy of your Diploma in Denturism or Denture Therapy.

3) Academic Equivalency Assessment

In addition to the QE Initial Application Supporting Documents outlined above, the following documentation is required for an Academic Equivalency Assessment:

  1. Form A1 - Academic Assessment Form

Please ensure that you provide all of the required Supporting Documents with this form. Incomplete submissions will delay the Academic Equivalency Assessment process.

The results of your Academic Equivalency Assessment are provided in writing approximately 4-6 weeks after the submission of a complete QE Initial Application.

  • If the Registration Committee determines that your educational program is equivalent to a diploma in Denturism from Ontario, you will be eligible to sit the Qualifying Examination.
  • If the Registration Committee determines that your educational program is not equivalent to a diploma in Denturism from Ontario, the Committee will provide you with recommendations that, once completed, will assist in meeting academic equivalency.

Step 2: Qualifying Examination Registration

Once you receive a notification that your completed QE Initial Application has been approved, you may register for the Qualifying Examination.

Examination Attempts

As of September 13, 2025, the Registration Regulation (O. Reg. 183/25) under the Denturism Act, 1991 places a limit of three (3) attempts at the Qualifying Examination.

Attempts at the Qualifying Examination will start counting for the February 2026 administration onwards. Any previous attempts at the Qualifying Examination (prior to and including the June 2025 administration) do not count towards a candidate's total number of attempts.

When a Candidate fails a QE component on their third attempt, they are not eligible to apply to take that component of the QE again until:

  • They successfully complete an additional training or remediation program specified by the Registration Committee (e.g. self-study plan of competency gaps, mentorship, attending a course/webinar, etc.); or
  • They successfully complete another post-secondary program in denturism or equivalent.

Exam Accommodations

If you have a temporary or permanent physical impairment, or any persistent cognitive, psychological, sensory or learning impairment which substantially limits your participation in one or both components of the Qualifying Examination, you may make a request for specific accommodation. Requests for specific accommodation must be submitted using the Qualifying Examination Accommodation Request Form and must accompany your registration for the Qualifying Examination. For more information, please review the College’s Qualifying Examination Accommodation Policy
