Jurisprudence Guidelines and Examination

Jurisprudence Guidelines

Jurisprudence in the context of health regulation refers to the legal principles and knowledge related to the regulation of Denturism. It encompasses the understanding of laws, regulations, by-laws, practice standards and guidelines governing the College of Denturists of Ontario.

The College has published a Jurisprudence Guideline to provide information on the ethical and legal issues related to practising Denturism in Ontario. The guideline covers important legal principles practitioners need to know including professionalism, ethical standards, types of laws, conflicts of interest, and other relevant laws.

Jurisprudence Examination

Accompanying the guidelines is a computer-based online Jurisprudence Examination that consists of 30 randomized multi-choice questions. The exam is offered free of charge and there are no limits on the number of attempts. The exam is now found on the online member portal (previously located in the Professional Practice Portal).

The open book exam consists of 30 randomized questions. 21 questions must be answered correctly (70%) to be considered successful on the exam. There is the ability to skip questions and return to them later during the exam. While there are no time limits or limit on the number of attempts, each exam attempt must be completed in one sitting. Test takers are free to use supporting resources including the Jurisprudence Guideline to assist them in the completion of the exam.

Registered Denturists can also voluntarily attempt the Jurisprudence Examination once per year to earn additional CPD credits. The examination opens January 1st of each year and closes upon successful completion for the year.

Denturists can earn 1 unstructured CPD credit for each hour spending reviewing the Jurisprudence guideline and 5 structured CPD credits for successfully completing the exam.
