Legislation, Regulations, & Competencies
Every health regulatory college in Ontario operates within a legal framework that governs the profession. That framework includes legislation, regulations and by-laws.
- Legislation is created by the provincial government. The Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) is a legislative framework which governs all regulated health professions in Ontario. Currently 28 health professions are regulated under the RHPA. The RHPA and the Denturism Act, 1991 determine how the denturism profession is regulated in Ontario and sets out the role and authority of the College.
- Competencies are the minimum knowledge, skills, and judgement required for a profession. Essential competencies provide a structure to help identify, evaluate, and develop the necessary competencies that ensure safe, competent, and ethical practice.
